Help establish Australia's intelligence market. Bring experience managing firm capacity, flexible supply and reserves to a market that also clears against capability, customer policy and jurisdiction.

About sovrgn
sovrgn is building the market and control layer for intelligence. It continuously matches demand with the best permissible supply across compute, model and jurisdiction.
The operating cycle is forecast, qualify, clear, dispatch, meter and settle. Firm, Floating and Reserve shape the capacity portfolio; buyer policy determines which supply is allowed to compete.
Electricity markets are a useful analogy, but intelligence is not perfectly fungible. It also clears on capability and law. That is the market-design problem we are hiring people to solve.
The book you ran
The NEM: five regional reference prices, 5-minute settlement, FCAS markets, and price caps that can swing a portfolio in a single interval. You've managed a cap-and-collar position and watched a spike that paid for the quarter — or the one that didn't.
Firm, Floating and Reserve apply familiar market disciplines to heterogeneous intelligence supply. Unlike electricity, intelligence is not fungible: qualification considers capability, security, latency, jurisdiction and contract before economic clearing. Dispatch and settlement arrangements are being developed; no fixed clearing cadence is represented.
What you'll do
- Develop Australia's demand and qualified supply positions, with affiliated and unaffiliated suppliers subject to the same customer-defined rules.
- Own the buy side: grow demand across Australian business, government, and critical infrastructure.
- Own the sell side: bring more in-jurisdiction capacity onto the market — sovereign silicon, spare GPU, firm and floating.
- Run the market itself: Firm, Floating and Reserve positions, buyer qualification rules, dispatch and settlement design.
- Be the face of sovrgn in Australia — AEMO-adjacent bodies, insurers, and the regulators shaping AI-continuity rules.
What we're looking for
- You have personally carried a NEM power or gas book — a trading desk, a gentailer, a retailer, an aggregator/VPP, or a large industrial load.
- Fluent in the NEM: 5-minute dispatch and settlement, FCAS, regional pricing, price caps/floors, and the cap-and-collar hedge market.
- You settle debates with numbers. Merit order, regional basis, and the cost of certainty are second nature.
- Commercial range: you can talk to a CIO, a developer, and a regulator in the same week.
- AI-native or AI-curious. You don't need to write the router — you need to understand the market it runs.
- AU-based. Experience with sovereign compute and infrastructure contracting is useful.
Bonus points
- Origination/structuring — PPAs, offtake, firming deals.
- VPP, DER-aggregation, or grid-operations (AEMO) background.
- You've built a desk or a book from scratch, not just inherited one.
Why this desk
- First in seat for your market. You're not inheriting a playbook — you're writing it, the way you always wished your old desk had let you.
- Familiar market instincts applied to a harder clearing problem: demand, capacity, reserve and dispatch, with capability, model, security and jurisdiction added.
- Direct line to the founders. Decisions get made in hours, not weeks.
- Equity for the right person.
